It is that time of year again. 365 days have passed and it is onto another year. New Year is filled with so many traditions and one of the most traditions is the New Years’ resolutions. The time when everyone verbalizes all the goals they hope to accomplish in the new year. They agree to keep that goal in mind every single day of the new year. Sure, it all sounds good in theory, but most of us know that it is pretty difficult to actually keep these goals when you get into the new year. You are seriously dedicated if you have managed to keep your resolutions from one year until the next.
We have all been there, two weeks into the new year and we have already completely forgotten what our resolution even was. Yet every single year we continue to make new resolutions. Since it is so tough to keep resolutions, it important to help your loved ones out when they are trying to accomplish those goals. While all of your friends and family are casting their resolutions, there are a few ways you can help them keep those resolutions throughout the year.
Hold Them Accountable
The first step to helping someone keep their resolutions is to ask them what those resolutions are. It is so easy to miss a day or accept failure when no one else knows you are failing. So make sure to ask your loved ones what goals they want to keep in the new year. Get as many details as you can and then hold them accountable. Just someone else being aware of their goals will keep them going longer. For example, if your best friend makes a commitment to go to the gym four times a week, pick some random days to call them and check-in with how they are doing. Point blank ask them if they went to the gym today. Your loved ones are much less likely to fail if they know everyone will be aware of their failure. This might seem a little over the top, but your friends and family will thank you in the long run.
Send Them Little Reminders
In going with keeping your loved ones accountable for the goals they have set, a great way to do that while still encouraging them is to send them reminders. This will have to be customized depending on the resolution they have made, but it can work for any goal. Simply getting a morning text that says something along the lines of, “Keep up the good work! Today is not the day to quit!” can mean a world of difference for someone feeling discouraged. That not only reminds them that they have a goal to reach and encourages them to do so, but it reminds them that someone else is thinking about them and someone else believes in them and wants them to succeed. It may seem like a small little text, but it can really set loved ones into motion on an off day.
Give Them An Encouraging Care Package That Lines Up With Their New Goal
When words fail to keep them encouraged, presents will! It does not have to be anything big at all. Just think of something related to their goal that would get them excited again. Obviously, this is going to be different for everyone depending on what the resolution is. Say their resolution is to be more fit, getting them a new cute piece of workout clothing could encourage them to keep that goal. Or if their goal is to read more, get them a new exciting book that they will want to keep the pages turning. If your loved one’s goal is to participate in daily meditation, get them something small like some new incense, a book on meditation, or a new yoga mat. If they are trying to eat healthier, send them a Healthy Blend Care Package. The list goes on and on. Just try to think of something that will keep them on track for just one more day.
You can even go a little more vague with your gifts. Just find something that is generally encouraging or helps with goal setting. Consider gifting them a planner or journal to write down their goals daily, or to track their progress. Gift them something motivational like a desktop print or a book on goalsetting. These gifts serve as gentle reminders that you are watching them and rooting for them to hit their goal. Small things like that can mean a whole lot on a day where your loved one is just not feeling their new goal.
Add A Note or Card
When sending any care package, it is important to personalize it with a note. However, it is essential in trying to encourage a friend or family member. When writing a note in a care package like this, you will want to include something about how proud of them you are. Congratulate them on the small goals they have already hit. Let them know that you believe they can do all that they want to. Hearing that from someone they care about can be just the encouragement they need to keep their resolution for even just one more day.
